Italy Lockdown, Salone del Mobile 2020 Postponed to June 2020

Abbasource plans to bring the 2019 OCIC (Open Call Indonesia Creation) winner to the world’s most prestigous furniture exhibition, Salone del Mobile 2020 in April 2020 and now postponed to June 16-21, 2020. The official announcement was made via the Salone del Mobile official website on February 25, 2020. This decision was based on an extraordinary meeting conducted by the Board of Federlegno Arredo Eventi. This delay has been supported by Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan.

At the time of the postponement in February 2020, only hundreds of Italian people were infected with the pandemic virus. But in its development, the infected population is even higher, becoming the highest sufferer in the world after China.

An increasing number of reported cases have jumped in the past week. According to John Hopkins CSSE data, on 1/3/2020 the corona virus findings in Italy are still at 1,228 confirmed cases. On Saturday 7/3/2020, the findings increased dramatically with 4,636 positive cases of Covid-19.

As reported by, 10/3/2020, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced the lockdown of all regions of Italy, especially the northern part to prevent the spread of the corona virus, from 10 March to 3 April 2020. Besides Lombardy, Milan (where Salone del Mobile is implemented) and Venice respectively are the areas that record the most cases.

The Italian Health Authority noted, 15,113 people were confirmed positive and suspect of corona, and the death rate reached 1,016 people. While people who are successfully healed total 1,045 people.

Seeing this situation, the Abbasource team is waiting for further developments. Regarding the preparation, Abbasource has actually planned everything accordingly and is ready to exhibit on the international stage. Teams including Vicentius Aldi Masella as the OCIC winner will depart for Milan.  This include registering for biometrics in the visa processing on 3 March 2020. As a result of the postponed event, the schedule was changed too.

All products that will be displayed at the booth at Salone del Mobile have been produced and are ready to be shipped out to Milan on time. The designs of the winners have been produced in several Abbasource network factories both in Jakarta and other cities in accordance with their respective product specifications.  We pray that this plague will soon pass, the world will rapidly recover from this pandemic.
